What sets Across The Breeds apart from other dog training schools, is owner, trainer Rita Van Zyl’s wealth of knowledge and experience, with not only different breeds of dog’s but other animals too. Rita gained an interest in animal training and behaviour when she undertook a volunteering position at Bayworld Oceanarium. Working under the wisdom and guidance of Linda Clokie and Colleen Gibson, Rita gained great insight into the importance of building a respectful relationships with animals, in order for training to be successful and sustainable. This first encounter, working with seals and dolphins was where Rita learnt great understanding that successful training was achieved by a trusting respectful relationship – there was no way that you could push or pull a 180Kg dolphin to get it to do what you wanted. Qualified as an animal behaviourist. with a diploma in Animal Behaviour through COAPE, Rita ensures dog training is not only fun for dog and owner, but is structured on solid understanding of animal behaviour. Rita’s positive patient approach provides both dog and owner a safe environment to work together.
